OXFORD, Ohio – The Western Michigan men's basketball team fell at Miami, 91-71, on Saturday in its first MAC road game of the season.
Four Broncos scored double-digit points for the afternoon, led by
Markhi Strickland's 14 points. Joining Strickland in double-figures for WMU (3-12, 0-3) were
JaVaughn Hannah and
Chansey Willis Jr., who tallied 12 points apiece, and
Owen Lobsinger, who netted 11.
Max Burton had six points and a team-high eight rebounds, while
Donovan Williams added nine points and seven rebounds off of the bench.
Miami (11-4, 3-0) got out to an 11-4 start in the opening five minutes of the contest. With the margin at 13-8, the RedHawks rattled off nine points in a row to extend their lead to 22-8. At 32-17, MU used a 22-6 surge to take a 54-23 advantage into halftime. The Broncos closed the gap to 20 multiple times after the break, but could get no closer.
Western Michigan made 42.6 percent (26-of-61) of its field goals for the afternoon, while Miami hit 54.1 percent (33-of-61).
The Broncos are back on the road on Tuesday as they visit Kent State. Tip is slated for 7 pm on
