Alex Bump and graduate student
Cameron Rowe earned National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) weekly awards, the league announced this evening.
Bump secured the league's Forward of the Week award after producing five points on four goals and one assist in a series sweep at No. 14 North Dakota. The Broncos won 3-2 OT on Friday before collecting a 5-1 victory on Saturday night.
Trailing by a goal in Friday's series opener, Bump took matters into his own hands. The Prior Lake, Minn. native scored the game-tying goal in the third period, helping the Broncos force overtime. In overtime, Bump scored the game-winning goal just 14 seconds into the extra session.
He followed that performance up with a three-point night in Saturday's win. He assisted on the game-winning goal in the first period, making a nice move in the offensive zone to set up WMU on the power play. That put the Broncos in front 2-0.
After UND cut the Bronco lead to 3-1, The Philadelphia Flyers draft pick lit the lamp with time winding down in the second period to bring WMU's lead back to three. Then, in the third period, Bump found the back of the net on the power play to cap off a 5-1 victory.
Bump now leads the team with 20 points on nine goals and 11 assists. He also has an eye-popping 112 shots on goal to go along with two game-winning goals.
Rowe was named the conference's Goalie of the Week after making 29 saves in a 3-2 victory on Friday night. The Wilmette, Ill. native has now on the award three times this season and 11 times in his career.
He made eight saves in the first period, 11 in the second and 10 in the third to earn his 11th win of the season. He is the NCAA's leader in win percentage this season. He is also the NCAA's active career wins leader with 65.
On the season, Rowe is up to 11-1-0 overall with a 1.83 goals against average and .943 save percentage. Rowe is ninth in the NCAA in GAA and 12th in save percentage.
Bump, Rowe and the Broncos will hit the ice again this weekend against Miami. The series opener at Lawson Arena is set for 7 PM EST.
