ANN ARBOR, Mich./GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- The Western Michigan track and field team competed at a pair of meets on Saturday evening, earning some strong results along the way. The top result of the night went to
Bri'Yanna Robinson, who won the weight throw with a mark of 15.99 meters at the John Flaminio Classic. She then won the shot put with a mark of 13.93 meters.
Competing alongside Robinson in Grand Rapids were
Kennedy Hagens,
Lane Hagens and
Tess Van Dyk.
Kennedy Hagens finished fifth in the weight throw with a mark of 14.83 meters. Her sister
Lane Hagens was able to post a throw of 13.73 meters. That was good for sixth place.
Along with Robinson, Van Dyk and
Lane Hagens were strong in the shot put. Van Dyk finished second with a throw of 13.45 meters.
Lane Hagens was right behind her in third with a mark of 13.35 meters.
The distance squad and the sprints, hurdles, jumps group competed in Ann Arbor at the Wolverine Invite. The 60-meter hurdles were kind to the Broncos, as
Mabinty Kebe and
Angel Pratt made the finals in that event. Kebe ended up placing second with a time of 8.75, while Pratt was able to cross the finish line in seventh with a time of 8.95.
In the 60-meter dash, WMU also had a pair of finals qualifiers.
Soniya Jones finished sixth with a time of 7.65, while
Laurie-Ann Desormes claimed seventh with a time of 7.78. Desormes and
Sandra Ferrari were then strong in the 200-meter dash. Desormes recorded a time of 25.70, while Ferrari notched a time of 26.00.
Moving to the 300-meter dash, Pratt, Kebe and
Jade Celestine were all able to impress. Pratt led the group with a time of 40.53. Kebe was just behind her, producing a time of 40.90. Celestine came in with a time of 43.01.
Reagan Viau then raced in the 600-meter run, earning a time of 1:49.68. In the 800-meter run,
Ava Kurczewski and
Lara Machado Pereira registered strong marks. Kurczewski crossed the finish line in a time of 2:21.57, while Machado Pereira collected a time of 2:24.61.
Lillian Zelasko paced the team in the mile, recording a time of 5:04.45.
Lily Overton was right behind her with a time of 5:06.24. Machado Pereira and
Madison Clor then crossed the finish line with times of 5:19.55 and 5:24.31, respectively.
The distance group concluded the day by having
Larissa McGrath,
Lauren Sancrant,
Brooke Soper and
Grace Aurand race in the 3,000-meter run. McGrath had the best Bronco time, finishing with a 10:41.22. Sancrant then came in with a 10:45.11. Soper was next with a time of 10:47.94. Aurand rounded out the Bronco runners with a time of 10:48.46.
Relay wise, the 4x400 team was able to finish seventh with a time of 4:09.80.
Anichka Malachi and
Mimi Joseph then produced some great marks in the long jump. Malachi's best jump was 5.38 meters, while Joseph was able to collect a mark of 4.70 meters.
UP NEXT
WMU will be back in action next weekend for a pair of meets. The team will split up for the Hoosier Horsepower Classic and the Bob Eubanks Open.
