Men's Tennis Opens Spring Season with Two Matches at Notre Dame on Sunday

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan men's tennis team opens its 2025 Spring Season with a double-header at the University of Notre Dame on Sunday against Duquesne and the Fighting Irish.

The Broncos open the day against the Dukes at 2 p.m. and compete against UND at 6:30 p.m. at Eck Tennis Pavilion.

Western Michigan is coming off an historic Fall Season that saw senior Anton Arzhankin compete at the NCAA Men's Singles Championship. It was the first time a Bronco had done so since Bob Learman in 1977. Arzhankin won the MAC Indoor Qualifying Event to earn a spot at the ITA Conference Masters Tournament. From there he earned wins in the Round of 16 and the Quarterfinals to advance to the Semifinals, where he fell in two sets to Pacific's Tiago Silva. All four semifinalists from the tournament then advanced to the NCAA Men's Singles Championship.

Entering Sunday's game will also be WMU's nationally-ranked doubles team of senior Brogan Pierce and freshman Jack Davison. After winning the MAC Indoor Qualifying Event and competing at the ITA Conference Masters Tournament, Pierce and Davison open 2025 ranked 109th in the ITA Men's Doubles rankings. The duo went 5-1 in the Fall.

Western Michigan returns to Kalamazoo for two matches on Friday as part of a Bronco Tennis Triple-Header. The men open the day against Marquette at 10 a.m., with the women's team taking on the Golden Eagles at 2 p.m. The men are then back in action at 6 p.m. against Ferris State. All three matches will be at West Hills Athletic Club and admission is free.
