MISSOURI – The Missouri Valley Conference announced its players of the week Tuesday afternoon. After the conclusion of the first week of play, Western Michigan men's soccer goalkeeper
Colin Welsh was named the MVC defensive player of the week.
Welsh led The Brown and Gold to a 2-0 record on the week and concluded his first two games as a Bronco by securing his first shutout as a member of the Brown and Gold in WMU's 1-0 road victory over then-ranked #9 University of New Hampshire Sunday. During the shutout, he recorded five saves against New Hampshire (1.000 save percentage). The Wildcats entered the match riding a 13-game regular season unbeaten streak dating back to Friday, September 8, 2023.
Welsh would concede only one goal over WMU's two games between then #14 Vermont and #9 New Hampshire. Overall, the keeper has seven saves over his last two games with a save percentage of .875 and a 2-0 record.
