FIRST HALF
Neither team could find much space in the opening few minutes of the first half. However, just over nine minutes into the match,
Madi Canada got the game's first shot, which missed just to the right of the goal. A few minutes later, the Broncos got the first corner kick of the game. However, the Golden Eagles' defense would clear the threat.
As the game moved the middle portion of the first 45 minutes, Blitchok got a great look at the goal, but it missed just left of the post. About 10 minutes later,
Brielle Gomez had her shot just tipped by Marquette goalkeeper Elise Krone. Just a few seconds after that,
Abby Werthman hit the post, and Marquette was able to clear the ball and keep the score tied at 0-0.
Down the stretch of the half, Werthman had one more great chance to put he Broncos in front, but Krone was there to make a save. The game remained tied as the two teams went to halftime.
SECOND HALF
The game opened up for both teams in the second half. Marquette scored early in the second 45 minutes but had the opportunity called back for offside. From there,
Sammi Glover got a pair of looks that just missed the net. After some back-and-forth action, Western Michigan was finally able break through.
Werthman's pass from the corner found the head of Blitchok who sent it by the keeper for the game's first goal. The Broncos jumped in front, 1-0, in the 63rd minute. Not too long after that, the Brown and Gold had some nice passing in the middle of the field to set up Peck.
Emily Pagett found Canada in the open field, and she sent a great ball to Peck streaking down the middle of the pitch. Peck buried the shot to give the Broncos a 2-0 lead with just over 20 minutes to play.
About 10 minutes later, the WMU offense went to work again, using some more nice passing to get a goal. Canada found
Jenna Blackburn streaking down the right sideline. She then sent a nice crossing pass to Blitchok who found the back of the net for the fifth time in just three games.
The Broncos would go on to close out a 3-0 win, giving Wilberding her second shutout of the season.
