KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Western Michigan redshirt senior center Jacob Gideon has been named to the 2024 Lombardi Award Watch List.
Gideon is one of just 90 student-athletes to make the watch list, which represents the very best from all FBS linemen and linebackers.
The Lombardi Award was established in 1970 in memory of legendary coach Vince Lombardi. It is presented to outstanding linemen who best epitomize their values of leadership, courage, performance, and discipline on and off the field. Furthermore, the watch list includes players who consistently show the values of strength, agility, and football acumen in their respective positions.
This is the third watch list that Gideon has earned a spot on, with previously being announced on the Rimington Trophy for the nation's top center, and the Outland Trophy for the nation's top interior lineman.
Gideon started all 12 games last season and has helped the Broncos produce 1,000-yard rushers in each of the past two seasons. He has been rated the top center in the Mid-American Conference for the past two seasons by Pro Football Focus.
Western Michigan opens the 2024 season on Friday, Aug. 30 at Wisconsin. Kickoff is set for 9 p.m. ET on FS1 and the Bronco Media Network. WMU's home-opener is set for Saturday, Sept. 14 at 6:30 p.m. against Bethune-Cookman for the annual CommUniverCity game. Tickets to all Bronco football games are on-sale at www.wmubroncos.com/tickets.
