Four Broncos Receive All-MAC Honors

CLEVELAND – The Mid-American Conference announced its specialty award winners and All-Conference Baseball Teams on Tuesday with four Western Michigan Broncos earning recognition. Cade Sullivan and CJ Richmond were selected to the All-MAC First Team, Dylan Nevar and Nolan Vlcek claimed spots on the Second Team, and Sullivan was named to the All-Defensive Team.

An All-MAC honoree for the third consecutive season, Sullivan is hitting .390, the third-highest average in the conference, and leads the WMU offense in both hits (78, 2nd in the MAC) and runs scored (63, 3rd). His 63 runs scored are a single-season program record. The senior is also among the league leaders in on-base percentage (.484, 3rd), OPS (1.104, 6th), slugging percentage (.620, 8th), walks (36, T-8), RBIs (48, T-12) and doubles (14, T-12).

In addition to picking up a First Team nod for the first time, Sullivan earned his second career All-Defensive selection. He made just one error in 414 chances, fourth-most in the league, at first base for a .998 fielding percentage, the sixth-highest mark in the MAC. Sullivan was also part of 32 double plays, tied for second-most in the conference.

Richmond earned a First Team selection in his first season with the Brown and Gold. Currently leading the MAC in hitting at .398, the junior hit an even .400 in conference play. He also leads the league in OPS (1.187) and is among the top-5 in on-base percentage (.496, 2nd), slugging percentage (.691, 3rd), hits (76, T-3), RBIs (60, T-5) and doubles (16, T-5).

The 2022 MAC Freshman of the Year, Nevar picked up a Second Team selection after leading Western Michigan in both home runs with 14 and RBIs with 63 during the regular season. The 63 RBIs are second-most in the conference and tied for the second-most in a single-season in WMU history. The redshirt junior is hitting .337 and also ranks among the conference's top producers in triples (3, T-3), homers (14, 8th), runs scored (51, T-9), slugging percentage (.612, 11th) and OPS (1.033, 11th).

Nolan Vlcek's Second Team selection is his first All-MAC accolade. The right-hander leads the Broncos in strikeouts with 80, the third-most in the conference this season. He is tied for fifth in the league with 75.1 innings pitched, which is one inning behind Brady Miller for the team lead. Vlcek has collected four wins, including MAC road wins at Eastern Michigan, Ohio and regular season champion Bowling Green. In the win at Ohio, the senior fired WMU's lone complete game of the regular season.

Western Michigan has secured the No. 2 seed for this week's MAC Tournament in Avon, Ohio. As the two seed, the Broncos get a bye in the first round of the tournament and will open up play at 6 pm on Thursday against a to-be-determined opponent.
