KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan men's basketball program and head coach
Dwayne Stephens have announced the signing of 6-5 graduate transfer guard Donovan Williams from the University of the Pacific. Williams becomes the fourth newcomer the Broncos have signed for the 2024-25 season, joining fellow transfer Chansey Willis Jr. and incoming freshmen EJ Ryans and Junior Sileu. Williams will arrive in Kalamazoo with one year of eligibility remaining.
"We are excited to add Donovan to our program," coach Stephens said. "He will bring leadership and experience to our group. Throughout his career, he has had a lot of success scoring the basketball. He has a competitive fire that will help bring out the best in our team. As someone who will be pursuing a master's degree, he will be a great addition to our locker room on and off the court."
Williams comes to Kalamazoo after spending the last two seasons at the University of the Pacific, where he played in 60 games and made 54 starts. After averaging 7.1 points and 3.6 rebounds per contest in 2022-23, Williams upped both averages last season, leading the team in scoring at 9.7 points per game and finishing as the second-leading rebounder at 4.4 per contest. He graduated from Pacific this spring with a bachelor's degree in Communications.
The Rockford, Ill., native began his career at Oklahoma State, playing 15 games over the course of two seasons in Stillwater. After suffering a season-ending injury which cut his true freshman season short, Williams returned and worked his way into the starting lineup for four games in 2021-22.
Williams starred at Lincoln North Star High School and was named Nebraska's Mr. Basketball after leading the state with an average of 28.3 points per game. Rated a four-star prospect by both ESPN and Rivals, he was a three-time First Team All-State selection and twice named a First Team Super-State honoree by the Nebraska Coaches Association.
