CLEVELAND – Western Michigan's
Polina Khotko has been named the Mid-American Conference Women's Tennis Freshman of the Year, while
Lindsey Zieglar,
Karin Hamilton and Khotko have been named to the All-MAC team.
Khotko, although a junior is eligible for Freshman of the Year as she is in her first year of tennis eligibility. She becomes the first Bronco to win MAC Freshman of the Year since Nini Sujashvili in 2011 and the sixth in program history. She also earned Second Team All-MAC honors after going 9-1 in MAC singles play and 3-3 in doubles.
Zieglar was named First Team All-MAC for the fourth time in her career, surpassing WMU Hall of Famers Kerstin Pahl, Frederika Girsang and Larissa Chinwah as the former program leaders. Zieglar finished the season 8-2 in singles play, all at No. 1. She was also 4-3 in doubles play with
Valeriya Monko, also at No. 1. After last weekend's regular season finale, Zieglar ends with a 30-14 record in MAC singles play.
Hamilton earns Second Team All-MAC honors for the second straight season. She went 7-1 in MAC singles play, with a 5-1 record at No. 2 and 2-0 at No. 3. In doubles, she posted a 3-3 record with Khotko in doubles.
The Broncos take on Miami in the MAC Tournament Semifinals on Friday at 2 p.m. in Toledo.
