KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Sophomore JaVaughn Hannah and redshirt freshman Max Burton of the Western Michigan men's basketball team have been selected to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team®. Hannah and Burton are the first Broncos to receive the honor since Seth Dugan made back-to-back Academic All-District Teams in 2018 and 2019.   
 
A Sport Management major with a 3.90 GPA, Hannah became the third player in program history to earn the MAC Sixth Man of the Year award after averaging 9.2 points and 3.3 rebounds across 30 games for the Broncos this season.
 
The Mount Clemens, Mich., native turned things up a notch in conference play, averaging 10.6 points and 3.6 rebounds per game, with 10 of his 12 double-digit scoring performances coming against MAC foes. Hannah grabbed 1.8 offensive rebounds per game in league contests, helping WMU pace the conference in offensive rebounding for the second straight year at 12.8 per game during MAC play.
 
Burton boasts a 3.71 GPA as a Pre-Business major. After having his freshman season cut short by injury, the redshirt freshman played in 31 of Western Michigan's 32 games this season and averaged 3.0 points and 1.3 rebounds per contest while shooting 52.9 percent from the field.
 
A native of Williamston, Mich., Burton went 5-for-6 from the field to score double-digit points for the first time as a Bronco in a critical late-season win over Miami which gave Western Michigan a series sweep over the RedHawks for the first time since the 2017-18 season.
 
The 2023-24 Academic All-District® Men's Basketball Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes men's basketball honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
