Softball Team Wins Third Straight With Victories Over Sacred Heart and Southern Indiana

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 MADEIRA BEACH, FLA. – The Western Michigan softball team defeated Sacred Heart 11-5 in five innings and the University of Southern Indiana 3-0 Saturday, to claim their third straight game with a win. In game one,
Rissa Bajusz struck out nine batters on the mound. In game two, the Broncos were led by Megan Welsh, who tallied a game high three hits. 

Game One 

During game one, the Broncos managed to score 11 runs against Sacred Heart and won in five innings after accumulating 13 hits. Riley Dittmar, Payton Kelly, Megan Welsh, and Cassidy Brendtke all tallied home runs for the Broncos, with Dittmar leading the way with three RBI. 

In the first inning, Welsh would homer and give the Broncos a 2-0 lead early, to start play Saturday. Later in the second inning, Brendtke would homer to continue the offensive burst for the Brown and Gold.  In the third inning, Dittmar and Kelly continued the momentum offensively by hitting home runs to increase the Bronco lead.

In total, the Broncos would create 13 hits for themselves offensively, with Kelly and Welsh combining for four hits as a duo. Bajusz would also accumulate nine strikeouts while pitching in the victory.    


Game Two 

After a scoreless two innings to begin game two the Broncos would compile two runs during the top of the third inning Saturday.  With one out during the inning, Dittmar doubled to left center and put herself in scoring position for Haley Boxwell. With Boxwell up to bat, she singled up the middle and scored Dittmar to take a 1-0 lead over Southern Indiana. Later in the inning, Welsh singled down the infield line and Taylor Garey doubled down the infield line. After the two hits, Garey was credited with a RBI after Boxwell scored and the Broncos were able to take a 2-0 lead into the bottom of the third Saturday. 

Later, during the top of the fifth, the Brown and Gold scored their third and final run of the game. With one out in the inning, Payton Kelly reached base after being hit by a pitch. Following Kelly's advancement with two outs, Welsh singled up the middle to put two on and two out. The Broncos would score their third and final run of the game when Kelly reached home plate after a double from Garey.
