Jonathan Robinson Signs with Sporting KC II

KANSAS CITY – Sporting KC II announced that Western Michigan University alumni defender Jonathan Robinson officially signed an MLS NEXT Pro professional contract ahead of the 2024 season. Sporting KC II did not disclose the financial details of the contract.

The defender from Gurnee, Illinois, was a pivotal piece during the Brown and Gold's Sweet 16 run this past fall and set a superior example through his vocal leadership and play on the pitch. Robinson scored one goal and tallied 13 assists for the Brown and Gold this past season in 22 appearances (22 starts). With the help of Robinson's defensive prowess, the Broncos saw themselves with the sixth-best shutout percentage in the entire NCAA at 54.5%.

Offensively, Robinson accumulated 13 assists on the season, which ranked second in the NCAA. His 13 assists would also tie Giuliano Teixeira (2003) for the most assists recorded during a single season in WMU history.

This past season, Robinson earned a variety of accolades including: All-Missouri Valley Conference First Team and United Soccer Coaches All-West Region First Team selections, a TopDrawerSoccer Team of the Week nod, a College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team selection, and a TopDrawerSoccer Third Team selection for the 2023 season.

In only two seasons with WMU, the defender scored three goals (two game-winners) and notched the sixth most assists created all-time in a Brown and Gold uniform with 18. In total, over his two seasons Robinson would tally 24 points.

Robinson's signing with Sporting KC II marks the Brown and Gold's fourth professional signing during a single offseason.
