ST. LOUIS – For the second week in a row, the Western Michigan University men's soccer team has the Missouri Valley Conference Offensive Player of the Week.
Junior forward
Vitor Geromel was named the MVC Offensive Player of the Week on Tuesday afternoon by conference office staff. The Broncos leading scorer, Geromel had a career performance against Holy Cross on October 13 in WMU's 6-0 win. He also helped contribute offensively to the Brown and Gold's 0-0 tie with Drake on Saturday.
Last Tuesday in Western Michigan's home match with the Holy Cross Saints, Geromel accomplished an offensive feat even more elusive than a hat trick in Western Michigan history. Geromel scored a haul of goals (four goals total) in his eighth match where he played all 90 minutes against the Saints. Four goals in a single match is the Broncos' program record, set in 1977 by Hall of Famer Randy Wojtala and last accomplished by Charlie Sharp in 2022. Geromel scored in the 9th, 74th, 78th, and 89th minutes to power WMU to its 6-0 win over the Saints.
Geromel also set a new career-high for shots in a match against Holy Cross with 12 attempts. In the Brown and Gold's 0-0 tie at Drake, Geromel was one of only four players to record a shot. His lone shot was one of three shots that landed on goal and the best scoring opportunity for Western Michigan in the 73rd minute.
The Broncos just kicked off their last non-conference game of the season at DePaul this afternoon. Following this afternoon's match, WMU will be back in action at Belmont in a little over a week on Friday, October 30.
