Women's Tennis Sweeps MAC Weekly Awards

CLEVELAND – The Western Michigan women's tennis team swept the Mid-American Conference weekly awards with Lindsey Zieglar and Valeriya Monko earning MAC Women's Doubles Team of the Week, while Monko was awarded MAC Women's Singles Player of the Week.

Zieglar and Monko went 3-0 at No. 1 doubles to help the Broncos earn three road wins. Against Youngstown State they earned a quick 6-0 win over Lili MInich and Yesenila Ovcharova. Against Cleveland State they won 6-4 over Bethany Yauch and Sima Heren and in the win over St. Bonaventure they earned a 6-3 victory over Isabella Venter and Anastasia Gubanova. The duo are now 8-0 on the season.

Monko went 3-0 in singles action. Against YSU she defeated Elinor Beazley, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 3. In the win at the Vikings she defeated Tereze Vevere 6-4, 6-1 and in the win at St. Bonaventure she moved up to No. 1 and won 6-4, 6-1 over Anastasia Gubanova. Monko is now 9-1 in dual matches this season.

The Broncos head out to Arizona this weekend to take on the Wildcats and then Nevada on Sunday, at UA.
