CLEVELAND – The Western Michigan men's tennis team swept the Mid-American Conference Men's Tennis weekly awards, with Drew Evans and Benjamin George earning MAC Doubles Team of the Week and Anton Arzhankin earning MAC Singles Player of the Week.
George and Evans went 2-0 on the weekend at No. 2 doubles, helping the Broncos sweep Butler and Cornerstone. Against the Bulldogs they defeated Patrick Joss and Rahulniket Konakanchi 6-2 and then went on to beat CU's Jaden Bender and Jose Oliva 7-5. The duo is 2-0 in dual meets so far this season.
Arzhankin went 2-0 at No. 1 over the weekend in singles, helping the Broncos sweep Butler and Cornerstone. Against the Bulldogs he defeated Alvaro Huete Vadillo 6-1, 4-6, 1-0 (10-5). Against CU he bested Santiago Castellanos, 6-2, 6-2. The weekend improved Arzhankin's record to 6-1 in dual matches this season.
The Broncos are back in action on Friday, hosting Illinois State at 3 p.m. at West Hills Athletic Club and then host Dayton on Sunday at 10 a.m.
