Sullivan Named Among D1 Baseball's Top 50 First Basemen

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Western Michigan first baseman Cade Sullivan has been named among the top-50 first basemen in the country by D1Baseball. The WMU senior came in at #45 on the publication's list of top first basemen and was the lone Mid-American Conference representative.

A two-time Second Team All-MAC selection and 2023 College Sports Communicators Academic All-District honoree, Sullivan led the Broncos in numerous offensive categories last season, including batting average (.306), hits (64), runs scored (53), home runs (18), RBIs (59), total bases (129) and slugging percentage (.617). His 18 home runs ranked second in the Mid-American Conference and tied Western Michigan's single-season program record. The Naperville, Ill., native's 59 RBIs were third-most in the MAC and tied for third-most in a single season in program history.

The first baseman's exploits helped the Broncos go 18-11 in conference play and reach the four-team Mid-American Conference Tournament, during which he blasted a pair of home runs against top-seeded Kent State. He went 4-for-7 and reached base in seven of his 10 plate appearances to earn a spot on the All-Tournament Team, giving WMU its first All-Tournament Team representative since the Broncos won the MAC Championship in 2016.

Sullivan enters the 2024 season tied with former Broncos John Toner (1998-01), Frank Alfieri (1996-99) and Kris Gundrum (1996-99) for the program's career home record with 28.

The Broncos are slated to begin the 2024 campaign on Friday, Feb. 16, as they begin a four-game series against Michigan at Camelback Ranch Stadium in Phoenix, Ariz. Western Michigan's first home series is slated for March 15-17, as it is set to welcome Toledo to Robert J. Bobb Stadium at Hyames Field to begin conference play.
