KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Western Michigan freshman goaltender
Hampton Slukynsky was named the National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) Rookie of the Week after helping the Broncos complete an undefeated weekend against No. 8 Colorado College.
This is his first NCHC weekly award, and he becomes the second Bronco this season to be named the conference's Rookie of the Week.
Zach Nehring claimed the title in mid-October, going on to win the league's Rookie of the Month award.
Slukynsky completed the weekend with a 0.92 goals against average, .964 save percentage and 27 total saves. The Warroad, Minn. native led the league in GAA and save percentage on the weekend and was the only goaltender to allow fewer than two goals.
The young goalie has been exceptional in net this season, boasting a 2-1-1 record in four games. He leads the league in save percentage (.944) and is second in saves per game (29.50). Nationally, Slukynsky is fifth in save percentage and 13th in GAA.
Slukynsky and the Broncos will be back in action this weekend at Minnesota Duluth. The series will begin on Friday, Nov. 22 at AMSOIL Arena. Puck drop is set for 8 PM ET.
