MORGANTOWN, W.V. – The Western Michigan women's tennis team wrapped up its first tournament of the fall, competing at the Martha Thorn Invitational, hosted by West Virginia, over the weekend.
DOUBLES
WMU dropped all of its doubles matches on the weekend, taking on teams from Duquense and Maryland.
SINGLES
In singles action on Friday, freshmen
Frida Weijerman and
Sienna Osborne both dropped their first collegiate matches, while senior
Audrey Smitek and junior
Julia Frazier also suffered losses. Graduate transfer
Lola Glantz picked up her first win as a Bronco, defeating the Dukes' Denisse Arinez 2-6, 6-3, 1-0 (11-9). Saturday went much better for the Brown & Gold. Glantz picked up another win after defeating DU's Yakunina 7-6 (2), 6-0. Weijerman picked up her first collegiate victory after beating the Dukes' O'Brien 6-4, 4-6, 1-0 (10-3). Osborne also earned her first win after a 6-3, 3-6, 1-0 (10-6) decision over Arinez. Frazier beat Maryland's Eissa 6-4, 6-2 for her first win of the season, while Smitek bested Roka from Duquense 3-6, 7-5, 1-0 (10-6). Osborn and Glantz also picked up wins on Sunday, with Osborne defeating Roka 6-2, 6-1 and Glantz besting O'Brien 3-6, 7-6 (5), 1-0 (11-9).
Western Michigan returns to action at the ITA Midwest Regionals in Columbus, Ohio, beginning on Thursday.
