Kouki, Stutelberg, Named WBB Captains Ahead of ‘24-‘25 Campaign

KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- Western Michigan women's basketball head coach announced the team's captains for the 2024-25 season. This year, The Brown and Gold will be led by the redshirt junior duo of Artemis Kouki and Maggie Stutelberg.

"Our players have chosen their leadership team for this season and the coaching staff applauds their decision of Artemis and Maggie. Both are four-year players with both having set out their freshman seasons as redshirts in the aftermath of Covid. I'm excited to help them with leadership strategies and continue to put them in situations where we need their help with team decisions." Said WMU women's basketball head coach Shane Clipfell on WMU's newest captains.

As a duo, the two have played a combined 73 games for the Brown and Gold and are two of the 10 returning players from the 2023-24 squad.

Last season in 28 games (10 starts),  Kouki sank a career-high 21 three-pointers on an impressive 38.2% from long range. Six times in 2023-24, the incoming redshirt junior made at least two three-pointers. Of those six games, Kouki splashed a career-high four three-pointers twice (at Notre Dame on December 21, 2023, and versus Miami (Ohio) on January 13, 2024).

In 12 games played (10 starts), Stutelberg averaged personal bests  in points (10.8), rebounds (2.8), and steals (1) before suffering a season-ending injury. Over her 12 games, the guard splashed at least four three-pointers in six contests, including a season-high five three-pointers at Georgia State on November 10, 2023. Two weeks later, Stutelberg would tie her season high of five three-pointers after shooting 100% from distance versus Campbell on November 24.

"Both are very intelligent; both have had to handle some hardships from personal experiences, and both have been through and understand the nuances of what this process is all about. They have plenty of tools in their bags to help this team continue to navigate and mature in the right direction!"
