Women's Soccer Remains Unbeaten in Conference Play with Draw at Eastern Michigan

YPSILANTI, Mich. – The Western Michigan women's soccer team remained unbeaten in conference play with a 1-1 draw at Eastern Michigan on Sunday afternoon.

Jenna Blackburn scored the lone goal of the game for the Broncos. Jen Blitchok picked up the assist on that effort.

FIRST HALF
The Broncos dominated the first half, outshooting the Eagles by a total of 15-1 (6-1 on goal). WMU also had 12 corner kicks in the opening 45 minutes. Blitchok tested EMU goalkeeper Ella Holland in the opening minutes of the half. She was able to make the save to open the match.

Following that, Maya Dean and Madi Canada had shots just miss the net. In the 18th minute, Heidi Thomasma nearly broke the tie, as Holland made a diving save on the headed attempt. About 10 minutes later, Holland saved another Thomasma shot.

In the 28th minute, Blackburn tried her first shot of the game, but Holland was again there to make the save. Down the stretch of the opening half, Jaden Peck and Blitchok would get a couple more looks on net, but Holland helped keep the game tied going into the halftime break.

SECOND HALF
Neither team could find much in the early going of the second 45 minutes. Blackburn had a shot go just off target in the 51st minute. A few moments after that, Lauren Boafo would make another save on a shot from Kate Robinson.

Both teams would be held without a shot on net until the 68th minute. Western Michigan's defense blocked a shot out front and cleared the ball off of the line to keep the game tied at 0-0. The offenses then started to find a groove in the last 10 minutes.

After Blackburn had a shot blocked, Blitchok passed it right back to her and she found the back of the net for her second goal of the season. Her goal gave WMU a 1-0 lead in the 82nd minute.

However, about three minutes later, EMU would draw even on a goal from Secora Johnson. Brielle Gomez, Canada and Emily Pagett would get shots in the closing minutes, but the two teams would end the game in a tie.
