Big Third Period Leads Broncos to Victory Over Lindenwood

MARYLAND HEIGHTS, Mo. – Western Michigan used third period goals from Dylan Wendt and Zak Galambos to defeat Lindenwood, 3-2, Friday night at Centene Community Ice Center.

Outside of Wendt and Galambos, Sam Colangelo was able to score his 12th goal of the season. The win was WMU's 12th of the campaign.

FIRST PERIOD
The Broncos controlled the entire first period, which got off to a fast start, thanks to a Lindenwood penalty in the opening two minutes. WMU was able to get great looks from Alex Bump and Colangelo on the man advantage, but Lions goalie Trent Burnham was able to just get a pad on both shots to keep it a tie game early.

Later in the period, Western Michigan continued to show its offensive firepower, with Luke Grainger and Owen Michaels finding some open room for shots. However, Burnham again stood tall and made a pair of saves.

The Brown and Gold eventually broke through, as Colangelo beat Burnham with just over seven minutes left in the period. Assists went to Matteo Costantini and Chad Hillebrand. WMU carried that one-goal lead into the second frame.

SECOND PERIOD
Much like the first period, Western Michigan controlled the opening few minutes. However, it would be the Lions who scored, as a puck skipped over a WMU stick and led to a breakout.

Moments later, the Brown and Gold collected a hooking penalty, and Lindenwood was able to go in front with time winding down on the man advantage.

Now trailing, Western Michigan began to find its groove on offense again. Down the stretch, Hillebrand, Colangelo, Costantini and Carter Berger each had great looks turned away by Burnham. The Lions carried their lead into the final 20 minutes.

THIRD PERIOD
Trailing by one, the Broncos came out aggressive and went on the power play in the opening minutes of the final frame. Bump had a shot robbed by Burnham during the man advantage and the Lions would again kill off the penalty.

However, the offensive momentum didn't stop there. With under 10 minutes to play, Wendt ripped a shot over the shoulder of Burnham to knot the game at 2-2. Assists went to Grainger and Galambos on the goal.

Then, with time winding down, the Broncos won a puck battle on the boards, eventually getting the puck to Galambos. He carried the puck into the zone and beat Burnham to put the Brown and Gold ahead with just over two minutes to play.

From there, Lindenwood pulled its goalie and generated two shots on net. However, Cameron Rowe was able to stand tall and lock down a 3-2 victory for the Broncos.
