KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan women's tennis team heads to Pittsburgh, Pa., and Duquesne University to take on the Dukes on Friday night at 7 p.m. and St. Francis (PA) on Saturday at 4 p.m.
LAST WEEK
Western Michigan opened its 2024 portion of its season last week, splitting matches against Ferris State and Indiana. WMU started off with a 7-0 sweep of the Bulldogs at home, securing the first career win for interim head coach Jimmy Beckwith. The Broncos went on the road for the first time to take on the Hoosiers and battled them to a 5-2 loss. WMU's two points came at the hands of Karin Hamilton and Audrey Smitek.
EARLY RECOGNITION
Karin Hamilton was named the MAC Women's Tennis Singles Player of the Week after her performance for the Broncos against Ferris State and Indiana. She played at No. 3 in both matches, defeating Parker Nolan from FSU (6-3, 6-0) and Saby Nihalani (3-6, 7-6 [7-2], 1-0 [10-4]) from IU.
HOME COOKING
After the coming weekend in Pittsburgh, the Broncos will play three of their next four matches at home. WMU hosts Chicago State on Sunday, Feb. 4 at 12 p.m. Purdue Northwest then comes to West Hills Athletic Club on Friday, Feb. 9 at 1 p.m. Western Michigan takes a trip to Michigan State on Sunday, Feb. 11 before returning home to host Oakland on Friday, Feb. 16 at 11 a.m. Admission to all WMU tennis matches is free.
