CLEVELAND – Western Michigan sophomore guard
Seth Hubbard has been named the MAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week, the league office announced on Monday. Hubbard is the first WMU player to earn this honor so far during the 2023-24 season.
Hubbard had a career day for the Broncos in the team's record-setting win over Aquinas on Friday, as he went 9-of-15 from the floor, including 6-of-11 from three-point range, to tally a career-high 27 points. In addition to setting a new career high in points, the Jonesboro, Ga., native also established new career-bests in three-pointers (6) and assists (6), while equaling his career high with five steals. The five steals helped the WMU defense force a season-high 18 turnovers.
The sophomore's efforts were part of a record-setting performance for Western Michigan, as it established new single-game program records for total points (127), three-pointers (18) and assists (34) in the victory. As a team, the Broncos shot 70.0 percent (49-of-70) from the floor, tied for the second-best single-game mark in program history and the second-best field goal percentage by a DI team in a game this season.
Western Michigan begins Mid-American Conference play with a pair of road games, starting on Tuesday, Jan. 2, with a trip to Oxford to take on Miami. Tip between the Broncos and RedHawks is set for 7 pm on
