SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Danielle Rinn notched her second consecutive top-10 finish and helped the Broncos to 10th place at the Joe Piane Invitational on Friday afternoon. Rinn placed ninth with a time of 17:31.7.
The top 10 teams at the event were: Akron, Richmond, Chicago, High Point, Santa Clara, James Madison, Oakland, St. Thomas, Tulane and WMU.
"It was a mixed bag today. While we had some people run PRs or place better than we did here last year, the team finish was not what we are capable of," head coach
Kevin Cataldo said. "It's a young group and we just opened up three other athletes that are on the upswing so I have to keep things in perspective. I do think that we were a little timid at the start of the race which put us too far back to make up the difference at the end of the race."
Western Michigan saw the return of All-MAC First Team performer
Kayla Schiera, as she placed 29th in her first race of the season. She crossed the finish line in a time of 18:02.8. Following her was
Chloe Nixon, who grabbed 44th place with a time of 18:22.3.
Rounding out the scoring lineup were
Madison Clor and
Larissa McGrath. Clor finished the race in 58th place with a time of 18:40.9, while McGrath grabbed 80th with a time of 18:59.2.
Delaney Knoll,
Madison Zarembski and
Katelyn Spooner were also among the top-100 finishers. Knoll was right behind McGrath in 81st place (19:00.4), Zarembski posted an 87th-place finish (19:03.1) and Spooner grabbed 91st place (19:06.3).
