THE FIRST SERVE
After turning in a 10-2 mark in non-conference play, its best start since 2008, Western Michigan begins Mid-American Conference play with a pair of matches at Miami. The Broncos have won four straight MAC openers, and started league play 2-0 in each of the last three campaigns.

The Broncos wrapped up non-conference play with a split of their two matches at the Alyssa Cavanaugh Classic in Bowling Green, Ky. Western Michigan beat ETSU in straight sets on Friday, and then fell to Western Kentucky in four sets on Saturday. Setter

SCOUTING THE REDHAWKS
Miami went 4-8 in its non-conference slate and turned in a 1-2 mark at the Purdue Fort Wayne Invitational last weekend. As a team, the RedHawks are third in the MAC with a .220 hitting percentage, with Maggie McCrary's .377 hitting percentage ranking third in the conference. MU's Gentry Warrick is third in the league at 1.03 blocks/set.
SERIES HISTORY
Western Michigan owns a 38-27 all-time record in the series against Miami. The Broncos have won three in a row against the RedHawks, including each of the last two meetings at Millett Hall.
CASE WINS FOURTH STRAIGHT POTW
For the fourth consecutive week to start the 2023 season, WMU senior setter
Logan Case was named the MAC West Setter of the Week on Monday. Selected to the Alyssa Cavanaugh Classic All-Tournament Team over the weekend, Case averaged 11.00 assists/set to help Western Michigan hit .252 for the weekend. Heading into the weekend, she leads the MAC in assists/set (11.36, T-2 nationally) and total assists (511, T-4 nationally).
AMONG THE LEADERS
Western Michigan leads the MAC in both assists/set (12.82, 31st nationally) and kills/set (13.67, 32nd nationally). The Broncos also sit second in the conference with a .247 team hitting percentage. Individually, WMU boasts two of the top-4 in the league in kills per set in
Keona Salesman (2nd, 3.81) and
Maggie King (4th, 3.42), while
Andelyn Simkins sits at fourth in the MAC in digs/set (4.44).
