Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Sing Leads Broncos To 1-0 Win Over Bowling Green

KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- The Western Michigan men's soccer team won its third game overall and have gone almost an entire month without a loss after defeating Bowling Green 1-0 Saturday evening.

During the first 45 minutes of Saturday's contest, neither team was able to gain an edge over the other. Entering the scoreless second half, Dylan Sing would break the 0-0 deadlock by scoring the game-winner during the 57th-minute mark of the contest Saturday. During the goal, Sing's teammates Carson Hodgson and Will Perkins were credited with an assist each.

"We dominated the game, with upwards of 20 shots with the shutout and we got our first Missouri Valley Conference win," noted Sing. Western Michigan out shot Bowling Green 20-7 Saturday, with 11 shots on target, compared to the Falcon's four.

Sing has now scored in three consecutive games, which is tied for his second-longest stretch of recording at least one goal. His personal best was set last season where he scored a goal in four consecutive matches from September 1, 2022- September 14, 2022.

"With the homestand, we go three and one with one tie. You want to four and oh, but going three and one is pretty good. We scored 11 goals, that's huge. Lastly, going into the next game we want to win: we want to get another shutout and we want to score a lot of goals, it's that simple." concluded Sing.

During the match, goalkeeper Ethan Brandt faced seven shots, with four on goal in the victory. Today, Brandt recorded his fourth shutout of the season, a career-best, and his second in a row overall.

"We've had a great start to the Valley Conference schedule with three points", noted head coach Chad Wiseman, "I thought we had a great homestand over the last four games: We scored 11 goals, picked up three wins, and had three shutouts".

Historical Notes

The Broncos and Falcons squared off for the 51st time in this historic series. Western Michigan now trails Bowling Green in the all-time series 28-23 and has won eight games and tied the Falcons twice over the last 11 matchups. On Saturday, the Broncos won their third consecutive game against the Falcons.

Coach Wiseman stands at 111 victories with WMU and is now the second coach in program history to pass the 110-win threshold for the Brown and Gold. Wiseman currently trails Blake Glass for a share of the most wins in program history by 14 games.
