BOWLING GREEN, Ohio -- The Western Michigan cross country team placed sixth at the Mel Brodt Collegiate Open this evening, with
Danielle Rinn pacing the Broncos by finishing 10th with a time of 21:38.11. This marked Rinn's Bronco debut after transferring to WMU from Oklahoma.
Following Rinn was
Chloe Nixon, who was able to post a 31st-place finish after earning a time of 22:29.75.
Brooke Soper was strong for the Brown and Gold as well, as she placed 34th with a time of 22:37.58.
Madison Clor and
Delaney Knoll rounded out the WMU scoring lineup by finishing 41st and 42nd, respectively. Clor posted a time of 22:45.50, while Knoll crossed the finish line in a time of 22:47.33.
Madison Zarembski also placed in the top-50 by finishing 49th with a time of 22:56.72.
"I am very happy with how we competed today. Danielle had an excellent opener and was close to a PR with her top-10 finish," head coach
Kevin Cataldo said. "This was by far the best we have run as a pack in my time here. We had a lot of freshmen run their first 6k and some even came through 5k in a PR. Chloe, Brooke, Maddie Clor, Delaney and Maddie Zarembski all worked hard as a group to keep together. From top to bottom, I'm very proud of this group and excited with where I think we can be by the end of the season. We still have a few kids that will help us out up front who sat this meet out, which is even more encouraging for the team."
The Broncos will continue their regular season on Sept. 29 when the team travels to South Bend, Ind. to compete in the Joe Piane Invitational, hosted by Notre Dame. WMU finished 10th in the event last season.
