THE FIRST SERVE
Western Michigan closes out non-conference play this weekend at the Alyssa Cavanaugh Classic in Bowling Green, Ky. The Broncos are set to take on ETSU on Friday and tournament host Western Kentucky on Saturday afternoon.
THE OPPONENTS
ETSU has struggled out of the gates this season, as it comes into Friday's action at 0-8. Friday's tilt marks the first-ever matchup between the Broncos and Buccaneers. Western Kentucky enters the weekend at 7-4 and was in the others receiving votes section of this week's AVCA Top-25 poll. WKU has won two of the three prior meetings with Western Michigan, with the most recent contest between the two coming back in 2014.
LAST TIME OUT
The Broncos won two out of three matches to capture the Kennesaw State Invitational title last weekend. WMU dropped its first match to Mississippi State in five sets, but bounced back to beat Wake Forest in four and sweep Kennesaw State. Western Michigan's win over Wake Forest was the program's first against an ACC foe since 2014.
ANOTHER WEEK, ANOTHER MILESTONE
A week after
Maggie King became the fourth Bronco to surpass 1,500 career kills,
Logan Case became the third player in program history to reach the 4,000-assist mark on Friday against Mississippi State. On Sunday, the senior climbed into second on WMU's all-time assists list. Case has 4,110 helpers in her career, trailing only Mary Murphy, who had 4,501 between 2015-18.
BRONCOS SWEEP MAC WEEKLY AWARDS
For the second time in the season's first three weeks, Western Michigan swept the MAC West Division's Player of the Week awards.
Logan Case made it three straight Setter of the Week awards after handing out 11.58 assists/set at the Kennesaw State Invitational.
Keona Salesman also made it three weeks in a row as the Offensive Player of the week after a trio of double-digit kill performances and a 4.33 kills/set average last weekend. Salesman was also named the MAC Female Scholar Athlete of the Week on Wednesday. WMU libero Andeyln Simkins earned her second Defensive Player of the Week honor this season after recording 5.33 digs/set and a .969 reception percentage for the tournament.
