KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- The Western Michigan University women's basketball team released the team's upcoming non-conference schedule for the 2023-24 season on Monday. The Broncos will play eight non-conference games in addition to participating in this year's Puerto Rico Classic before embarking on their Mid-American Conference slate.
The women's basketball team will tip-off the 2023-24 campaign on the road against Depaul in their second ever match up with the Blue Demons on Monday, November 6, marking the first game of the team's extended road trip. Following the Thanksgiving holiday, the Broncos will travel to Puerto Rico for the Puerto Rico Classic on November 24 and 25. Western Michigan is scheduled to play Campbell University on November 24 at 7:30 PM and UNC Asheville, November 25 at 6:00 PM.
Western Michigan will not see action at University Arena until November 29, when they will host Valparaiso University. The brown and gold will be looking to win their fifth game in the last six meetings against the Crusaders dating back to 2012-13.
To conclude the 2023 calendar year, Western Michigan will host three home games including Purdue Fort Wayne on December 17 for the last home matchup of 2023. The Broncos will conclude non-conference play in a road matchup against Notre Dame on December 20. The contest will mark WMU's first meeting against the Fighting Irish since the 2006-07 season.
WMU returns six upperclassmen to the hardwood, including senior Hannah Spitzley in 2023-24. Last season, Spitzley averaged career highs in over five statistical categories, including a personal best 10 points per game and 5.6 rebounds per game in 29 contests.
