NEW ORLEANS, La. -- The United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) released its initial cross country regional rankings yesterday afternoon, with Western Michigan set to open the season at No. 13 in the Great Lakes Region.
The Broncos ended last season at No. 13 and return a wealth of talent from last year's team. All-MAC First Team performer
Kayla Schiera will headline the squad, as she returns as a graduate student. She finished seventh at last year's MAC Championships and 57th at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional.
Along with Schiera,
Annalise James,
Brooke Soper,
Katelyn Spooner,
Maggie Raab and
Lauren Sancrant return to help the Broncos. Those five runners helped the Broncos to a fifth-place finish at last year's MAC Championship, with each of them finishing in the top-85.
WMU opens its season this Friday at the Winrow Valparaiso Open. The meet will begin at 6 PM, and the Broncos finished third in last year's event.
