BURLINGTON, Vt. -- The Western Michigan men's soccer team opened the 2023 campaign with a 2-0 defeat to #12 University of Vermont Thursday evening.
Game Notes
During Thursday's contest goalkeeper
Ethan Brandt recorded a career-best seven saves in the match. As a team, the Broncos put up nine shots on Vermont but were unable to connect the ball into the back of the net. "Full credit needs to go to Vermont, I feel they out played us in all aspects of the game today. Almost the entire game was played on there terms," noted Head Coach
Chad Wiseman.
Tonight, graduate student forward
Dylan Sing led Western Michigan with three shots, while
Charlie Sharp and
Jonathan Robinson tacked on two of their own.
"They were tougher on the 50-50 balls and dominated second balls. They were extremely discipline, we need to learn from that. Moving forward will need better performances from our best players and I'm confident we will get that," concluded Wiseman.
Many Broncos debuted tonight for the brown and gold including:
Nick Stone,
Braxton Arpachinda,
Will Perkins,
Noah James,
Tom Cooklin, and
Amin Fernouchi.
Historical Notes
Thursday's contest between the Catamounts and the Broncos was the second matchup in series history. In their previous meeting, the two programs tied 1-1 on Friday, August 29, 2008.
