SANDY, Utah – On Sunday, August 27, Western Michigan will face off against Kyle Beckerman and the Utah Valley Wolverines at America First Field, the home field of Major League Soccer's Real Salt Lake.
Sunday will mark the first-ever matchup between the two programs, with kickoff scheduled for 1:00 PM MDT (3:00 PM EDT). The match will be streamed on
ESPN+.
Beckerman was
named the head coach of UVU men's soccer in April of 2021 and has led his team to 16 wins over the past two seasons. Coach
Chad Wiseman and the Broncos will be looking to snap Utah Valley's streak of five straight home wins. Last season, the Wolverines went undefeated at home for the first time in program history and outscored their opponents 10-1 in the process. For the Brown and Gold, they will be looking to continue last year's road success this Sunday. In 2022, WMU saw a 10-2-2 road record, notching their greatest win total away from Kalamazoo since 2019 (7).
As a professional player, Beckerman's two-decade career included stops at MLS clubs Miami Fusion, Colorado Rapids, and Real Salt Lake. Additionally, as captain of RSL, Beckerman led the club to a 2009 MLS Cup. During his time at the national level, in 58 caps for the U.S. National Team, Beckerman helped lead the red, white, and blue to three Round of 16 appearances in the World Cup. Recently in 2020, he was named one of Major League Soccer's 25 Greatest Players of all-time.
