KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Western Michigan men's basketball team is set to head to Spain from Aug. 16-24 for its 2023 foreign trip. WMU is scheduled to play three exhibition games during the trip in the cities of Madrid and Barcelona.
First up for the Broncos is a matchup against the Madrid All-Stars in Madrid on Saturday, Aug. 19. From there, Western Michigan heads to Barcelona for its next two contests, as it will face the Cataluna All-Stars on back-to-back days, Aug. 21 and 22.
"We are looking forward to traveling to Spain," WMU head coachÂ
Dwayne Stephens said. "For our program, it will be a great experience both on and off the court. We will be able to experience the culture of Spain while continuing to build our team chemistry.
Â
We strive to enhance the student-athlete experience by creating memory makers, and this will be a life-long memory for our players. I would like to thank everyone who made this trip possible for our program."
NCAA programs are allowed to take foreign trips once every four years, and this will be Western Michigan's first since visiting Belgium, France and the Netherlands in the summer of 2016. The Broncos went 4-0 on that European trip. Â
