KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- The Western Michigan cross country program and head coach
Kevin Cataldo are excited to announce the 2023 schedule, which features four regular-season meets across the Midwest and a competitive postseason slate.
The Broncos will begin the 2023 campaign with a trip to the Winrow-Valparaiso Open on Sept. 1. WMU finished third at the event last season and
Makayla Perez placed first as an individual.
Following that, WMU will head to the Mel Brodt Collegiate Open on Sept. 15, hosted by Bowling Green. The Broncos will get a chance to check out the MAC Championship course, as BGSU is set to host the conference meet.
Notre Dame will then host the Joe Piane Invitational on Sept. 29. The Broncos took 10th place in last year's event, with returner
Kayla Schiera placing eighth out of 146 runners. The last regular season meet of the year will be on Oct. 13 at the Bradley Pink Classic. WMU also participated in that event last season, placing 24th.
The postseason will begin with the MAC Championships on Oct. 28 at Bowling Green. Western Michigan claimed fifth place at the conference meet last season, earning a pair of All-MAC First Team honorees, with Perez and Schiera each finishing in the top seven.
After that, Wisconsin will host the NCAA Great Lakes Regional meet on Nov. 10. WMU nabbed 13th place in last year's regional meet, as Perez earned All-Region honors for finishing 20th. In a field of more than 200 runners, Schiera and
Annalise James were among the top 75.
To end the season, the NCAA Championships will take place in Charlottesville, Va. on Nov. 18. Western Michigan last made an appearance at the national meet in 2017.
