KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Western Michigan junior first baseman
Cade Sullivan has been named MAC Baseball Player of the Week for the third time this season, the league office announced on Monday. Sullivan was also selected as one of
Collegiate Baseball's National Players of the Week, Powered by Diamond.
Sullivan played a huge role in Western Michigan's sweep of Toledo over the weekend, as he went six-for-14 (.429) with four home runs, 11 RBIs, a .529 on-base percentage and a 1.286 slugging percentage in the series. The Naperville, Ill., native homered in all three games of the series and has now gone deep in five consecutive games, all Western Michigan victories.
The junior began the weekend with a three-run shot in the opener of Saturday's twin bill at Toledo and also snared a line drive to begin an inning-ending double play in the eighth to help preserve WMU's 9-8 win. Sullivan then got the Bronco offense going in game two of the twin bill with a grand slam. He again got Western Michigan started in Sunday's series finale with a two-run homer in the first, and added another two-run blast later in the contest for his fourth home run of the series.
Sullivan is the second Bronco to be named a National Player of the Week this season, joining freshman
Grady Mee.
Western Michigan returns home on Tuesday for a non-conference matchup against Valparaiso. First pitch is slated for 3 pm from Robert J. Bobb Stadium at Hyames Field.
