Box Score BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Western Michigan women's tennis team picked up a crucial victory on the road at Bowling Green, 5-2, on Saturday afternoon.
The Broncos (13-8, 4-5 MAC) were in an early hole after dropping the doubles point, but quickly made their move in singles.
All five of WMU's points came from two-set wins in singles play. Lindsey Zieglar got WMU on the board after a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 1 over Eloise Saraty. Karin Hamilton quickly made it 2-0 with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Ionna Tsadari at No. 2. Freshman Ariane Souligny pushed the lead to 3-0 with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Leticia Fonseca at No. 5 before Valeriya Monko secured the match victory with a 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 3 over Lucy Furness.
Freshman Audrey Smitek added WMU's fifth and final point with a 7-6, 6-0 win over Maru Poppe at No. 6.
The Broncos head to Northern Illinois on Sunday afternoon. A win will clinch a spot in the MAC Tournament.
