A trio of home runs helped Eastern Michigan get out to a 6-0 advantage over the first four innings.
Western Michigan got on the board for the first time in the bottom of the fourth, as
Dylan Nevar delivered a two-out, two-run single to make it 6-2.
The Eagles extended the margin with four in the fifth frame and seven in the sixth.
In the home half of the sixth,
Bobby Dearing launched a towering, two-run homer to right field. It was the first long ball of Dearing's collegiate career.
WMU got its final run of the contest in the seventh, as
Gavin Doyle notched an RBI single which brought
Cade Sullivan in to score.
The Broncos and Eagles continue their home-and-home series on Wednesday evening in Ypsilanti. First pitch is scheduled for 6 pm.
