YPSILANTI, Mich. – The Western Michigan baseball team racked up a season-high 17 hits, but dropped a 13-10 decision to Eastern Michigan in a Tuesday evening non-conference clash.

Western Michigan's season-high 17 knocks came from nine different batters, with
Cade Sullivan and
Jackson Kitchen notching three apiece.
Will Morrison,
Grady Mee,
Dylan Nevar and
Josh Swinehart each tallied two hits for the evening.
The Broncos struck first, as Kitchen singled
Gavin Doyle home in the top of the second.
Jimmy Allen raced home on a passed ball in the third inning to make it 2-0.
Eastern Michigan responded with four in its half of the third inning to move ahead.
WMU answered in the fifth, as Nevar notched a run-scoring single and Doyle came home on a balk to even the score at 4-4.
Each team then had a five-run frame, with EMU pushing across five in the bottom of the fifth to regain the advantage, 9-4. The Broncos came right back in the next half inning with five of their own, with the outburst capped by a pinch-hit, two-run homer by Swinehart.
The score remained tied at 9-9 until a three-run seventh put Eastern Michigan back on top. The hosts added another tally in the eighth to take a four-run cushion into the ninth.
Kitchen and Mee each doubled to pull one back for the Broncos in the ninth, but WMU could not get any closer in the final frame.
Western Michigan resumes Mid-American Conference play this weekend with a three-game series at Northern Illinois. First pitch of Friday's series opener against the Huskies is slated for 4 pm.
