COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- After a successful weekend at Minnesota Duluth, forward
Chad Hillebrand, defenseman
Zak Galambos and goaltender
Cameron Rowe have all received National Collegiate Hockey Conference weekly honors. Hillebrand earned Forward of the Week, Galambos was named Defenseman of the Week and Rowe collected Goalie of the Week recognition.
Hillebrand had a fantastic weekend against the Bulldogs, tying for the team lead in points in the two games. Hillebrand collected all three points in Saturday's 4-1 victory, scoring the first goal of the night and adding an empty netter to put the game away. He earned an assist on
Luke Grainger's goal, which came just nine seconds after UMD scored to draw within one. Hillebrand's elevated play has come at a great time. WMU has won nine of its last 10 games, and he's tallied six goals and seven assists in that stretch.
WMU's defense was a huge help in taking five of the six possible points against UMD this past weekend, and Galambos spearheaded that effort. He finished the weekend series with one goal (shorthanded) and two assists. His two assists on Friday couldn't have come at better times, with the first pushing WMU in front 2-1 and the second leading to the game-winning goal in overtime. The following day, Galambos took a nice feed from
Jason Polin and found the back of the net to give WMU a 2-0 advantage. Galambos is averaging a point per game over the last eight contests.
Rowe has been rock solid in net for the last month, and this weekend was no different. The junior goaltender allowed just three goals, while making 57 saves. He finished the two-game set with a 2-0-0 record, 1.48 goals against average and .950 save percentage. Rowe had three double-digit save periods, including a 14-save third period in Saturday's 4-1 victory. Rowe's 57 saves were the most he's had in a series this season. He has now won Goaltender of the Week two of the last three weeks.
WMU will be back in action on Feb. 17-18 against Colorado College. The Broncos will host the Tigers on Friday at 7 p.m., with Saturday's game beginning at 6 p.m. To buy tickets, visit wmubroncos.com/tickets.
