Box Score 2 BLOOMINGTON/INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- The Western Michigan women's tennis team split on the road on Saturday, falling at Indiana 4-0 and winning at IUPUI 7-0.
The Broncos (6-3) opened the morning taking on the Hoosiers. IU earned the doubles point with a 6-0 win at No. 1 by Lara SChneider and Saby Nihalani over Lindsey Zieglar and Valeriya Monko. The point was clinched with a win at No. 3 by Alexandra Staiculescu and Rose HU over WMU's Karin Hamilton and Audrey Smitek, 6-3.
The Hoosiers then picked up two-set wins at No. 3, No. 4 and No. 5 singles. The remaining matches went unfinished.
Western Michigan rebounded in the evening with a sweep of the Jaguars. The Broncos started off picking up the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 2. Zieglar and Monko defeated Hayward and Bernard 6-3. IUPUI picked up a win at No. 3 and Hamilton and Smitek secured the point with a 7-6 (7-5) win over Dell and Lampman.
WMU won all six singles matches in two sets. Zieglar picked up a 6-1, 6-0 win over Myers at No. 1. Perkucin won her match at No. 4 and Smitek won at No. 5, both with scores of 6-2, 6-1. Hamilton had a 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 2 over Bernard, while Monko won 6-2, 6-2 at No. 3 over Hayward. Kiana Rizzolo picked up a win at No. 6 over Lounsbury, 6-1, 6-3.
Western Michigan heads to Florida for Spring Break with matches against Tennessee State on Sunday, March 5, Bethune-Cookman on Monday, March 6 and Northwood on Tuesday, March 7.
