MUNCIE, Ind. – The Western Michigan women's basketball team came up short against Ball State on Wednesday, suffering an 80-49 defeat at Worthen Arena.
Taylor Williams led the scoring with solo double-figures at 20 points on 8-of-13 shooting from the field and a perfect 4-of-4 from the free throw line. Williams contributed nine rebounds, dished out six assists, added four blocks, and one steal.
Hannah Spitzley had a solid performance on the boards for the Broncos, pulling down a total of 10 rebounds, four offensive and six defensive boards. Outside of Williams and Spitzley, the team struggled to find scoring options, as six players were able to combine for a total of 29 points.
Western Michigan outshined the Cardinals with a perfect 6-of-6 from the free-throw line, while BSU shot 11-of-13 for 84.6 percent. Ball State emerged over the Broncos from the field shooting 47 percent and from the three point range at 38.9 percent, while Western Michigan only managed 33.3 percent and 17.9 percent, respectively.
The Broncos managed to force a higher number of turnovers than BSU, causing 17 in total. Additionally, Western Michigan scored 24 points from the paint, four points from second-chance opportunities, three fast break points, and 18 bench points. However, Ball State responded by scoring 36 points from the paint, 15 second chance points, 10 fast break points, and 28 bench points, while only forcing six turnovers from Western Michigan.
The Western Michigan women's basketball team looks ahead to the weekend home match against Ohio University on Saturday, February 25th at 2:30 pm. This contest features a Senior Day celebration, which will recognize the contributions of three seniors on the team:
