KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- Despite being off this past weekend, the Western Michigan hockey team was able to rise in the latest national polls. The Broncos have won nine of their last 10 games and sit in second place in the National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) with six games left in the regular season.
WMU checked in at No. 8 in both the DCU/USCHO.com and USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine polls released earlier today. The Broncos were able to jump over Ohio State, as the Buckeyes went 0-1-1 against Notre Dame over the weekend. Western Michigan has now spent 44 consecutive weeks in the top-20. Denver (No. 3), St. Cloud State (No. 6), Western Michigan (No. 8) and Omaha (No. 15) represented the NCHC in the polls this week. North Dakota was receiving votes in both polls.
WMU will have a chance to continue its ascent in the polls this weekend, with Colorado College coming to town. The Broncos swept the Tigers in Colorado Springs back in January. Friday night's game will begin at 7 p.m. and Saturday's contest is set for 6 p.m. inside Lawson Arena.
