Case, Simkins Named VolleyballMag.com All-Americans

BATON ROUGE, La. – The accolades continue to roll in for the Western Michigan volleyball program, as senior setter Logan Case (Third Team) and senior libero Andelyn Simkins (Honorable Mention) have been named VolleyballMag.com All-Americans. This marks the first time in program history WMU has had multiple players earn All-American status in the same season. The VolleyballMag.com All-America teams were selected by a panel of voters from the national media.

It is the second All-American honor of the season for Case, who was named an AVCA Honorable Mention All-American earlier this month. The senior boasts a litany of other awards from this season as well, including becoming just the second player in Mid-American Conference history to be named the MAC Player of the Year and Setter of the Year in the same season. Case was also named to the AVCA Midwest All-Region First Team, College Sports Communicators Academic-All District®, All-MAC First Team for the fourth straight year and MVP of the Mid-American Conference Championship.

A native of Maineville, Ohio, Case was the NCAA Division I leader in total assists this season with 1,421, and ranked second nationally with 11.94 assists per set. Back on Oct. 17, she became Western Michigan's all-time leader in career assists, and in the MAC Championship against Bowling Green, became the first Bronco to eclipse 5,000 career assists.

With her Honorable Mention selection, Simkins became the eighth player in program history to earn All-American status. Like Case, Simkins has racked up numerous accolades throughout her season as well, including College Sports Communicators Academic-All District®, MAC Defensive Player of the Year, All-MAC First Team and an All-Tournament selection at the MAC Championship.

The Schoolcraft, Mich., native was one of the top liberos in the country this fall, racking up 592 digs for an average of 4.97 per set, both of which were second in the conference. Her digs were 17th-most in NCAA Division I, while her per set average ranked 23rd. Simkins was also a weapon for the Broncos both serving and defending opponent serves. On serve receive, she made just 22 errors all season while facing more than 500 opponent serves for a .957 reception percentage. At the service line, Simkins topped the Broncos and ranked fifth in the MAC in both total aces (45) and aces per set (0.38).

The senior duo was integral to the success of the Broncos this fall, as they enjoyed one of the best seasons in program history. Western Michigan captured both the MAC Regular Season and Tournament titles on the way to a 31-3 record, its first 30-win season since 1983. WMU reached its first NCAA Tournament since 2014, and went on to upset No. 7 seed Auburn in the first round for its first NCAA Tournament win since 2008.

Both Case and Simkins, along with teammates Maggie King and Keona Salesman, are on the ballot for the College Sports Communicators Academic All-America® Teams as well. Those teams are announced by CSC in early January.
