Volleyball Heads East for Battle With Eagles

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan volleyball team takes its nine-match winning streak on the road this weekend as it travels across the state for a pair of contests against Eastern Michigan.

THE FIRST SERVE
Western Michigan takes its nine-match winning streak on the road this weekend for a pair of contests at Eastern Michigan. The Broncos' nine-match winning streak is their longest streak since a 10-match run in 2011.  WMU is 9-0 in Mid-American Conference play for the first time since 1999 when it won its first 13 league matches. 

LAST TIME OUT
Western Michigan extended its winning streak to nine in a row on Tuesday as it dispatched NIU in straight sets. Anna Calcagno was one of three Broncos to have double-digit kills, as she led the way with 17, one shy of her career high. Maggie King (12) and Keona Salesman (11) also posted double-digit kills against the Huskies.

SCOUTING THE EAGLES
Eastern Michigan enters the weekend in search of its first conference win of the campaign. The Eagles have dropped 13 contests in a row overall. EMU's Callie Minshew is averaging 3.73 kills/set this season, the fourth-highest mark in the conference, and is second in the league in points/set at 4.34.

SERIES HISTORY
Western Michigan has dominated the all-time series against Eastern Michigan to the tune of a 74-24 record. The Broncos have won nine straight against EMU, including five in a row in Ypsilanti. 

CASE CAPTURES ASSISTS RECORD
In Tuesday's win, senior setter Logan Case handed out 43 assists to pass Mary Murphy (2015-18) and become WMU's all-time leader in career assists with 4,538. Case leads the MAC and ranks third in the nation at 11.65 assists/set this season and is second nationally in total assists with 862. 

MAGGIE MOVING UP
With her 12 kills on Tuesday night, Maggie King broke a tie with Rachel Bontrager (2017-20) for second on Western Michigan's all-time kills list with 1,668 career kills. Michelle Moore (2006-09) holds WMU's all-time record with 1,919 kills.

AMONG THE NATION'S BEST

WMU enters the weekend atop the MAC in assists/set (13.19, sixth in NCAA DI), kills/set (14.08, 10th), hitting percentage (.266, 26th) and 
opposing hitting percentage (.182).
