Karin Hamilton Advances to Main Singles Draw at ITA Regionals

EAST LANSING, Mich. – Western Michigan senior Karin Hamilton earned two wins in singles qualifying to move on to the main singles draw at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Midwest Regional Championships on Thursday.

Hamilton opened with a 5-7, 6-3, 6-0 victory over Michigan State's Makenna Martinez, advancing to play Bowling Green State's Hannah Nueman. Hamilton then dispatched her Mid-American Conference counterpart in two sets 6-3, 6-1.  The Calgary, Alberta, native will take on Agnes Gustafsson from Illinois-Chicago to open the main draw on Friday.

Also competing in the main singles draw will be senior Lindsey Zieglar. Zieglar automatically earned a spot in the main draw and was able to skip qualifying.

Sophomore Ariane Souligny picked up a win over Michigan State's Marlo Schiffman 6-1, 6-1 in the opening round of qualifying, but fell to Notre Dame's Carrie Beckman in two sets, 6-3, 6-1.

WMU will also compete in the doubles main draw, beginning on Friday morning.
