FIRST AND FIVE
FEELS LIKE THE FIRST TIME
Western Michigan hosts New Hampshire on Saturday at 6 p.m. for its annual CommUniverCity Night at Waldo Stadium. The game can be seen live on ESPN3. This is the first-ever meeting between the Broncos and the Wildcats and just the third time the Broncos have played a team from the Colonial Athletic Association. The previous two games were wins over Monmouth in 2019 and Hofstra in 2009.
Â
The Broncos also had a couple of firsts against San Jose State last Saturday. Redshirt freshman quarterback
Mareyohn Hrabowski made his first collegiate start, while quarterback
Stone Hollenbach made his Bronco debut in the fourth quarter.
Â
GETTING BACK ON TRACK
Western Michigan looks to jumpstart its offense on Saturday against UNH. Last Saturday's loss at San Jose State was the first time the offense failed to produce a point this season, with the lone touchdown coming off a 90-yard kickoff return by
Sean Tyler. The Broncos were held to a season low of 201 total yards. Last Saturday was also the first time this season the Broncos failed to force at runover.
Â
Western Michigan has a good track record of bouncing back after a loss, with an 11-8 record following a loss under head coach
Tim Lester. The Broncos are also 2-1 in the third game after losing two straight.
Â
JUST FOR A MOMENT
Senior linebacker
Corvin Moment has retaken the lead in the race for the top tackler on the Broncos defense. Moment had seven tackles against San Jose State to push ahead by one over
Zaire Barnes with 32 total on the season. Barnes still leads the team in unassisted tackles with 16. Moment is currently tied for second on the team in tackles for loss at 2.0 with defensive lineman
Andre Carter and fellow linebacker
Ryan Selig.
Â
No. 30
Saturday is Western Michigan's 30th installment of its annual CommUniverCity Night. Launched in 1992, CommUniverCity is a pre-game corporate tailgate event held at the Kanley Track & Field Complex prior to the game against New Hampshire. The event brings together the Kalamazoo Community, Western Michigan University and the city of Kalamazoo.
Â
No. 3
Sean Tyler returned his third career kick off for a touchdown in the loss at San Jose State. Tyler took the ball 90 yards to the endzone, his third-longest with the previous touchdowns being 100 and 96 yards. Tyler now has the most kick off returns for touchdowns since Darius Phillips, who returned five kicks in his career before heading off to the National Football League.
