FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Western Michigan men's soccer team extended its winning streak to four games after downing Purdue Fort Wayne, 3-0, on the road on Wednesday evening.
The Broncos (4-1-0) picked up goals from
Dylan Sing,
Landon Fisher and
Charlie Sharp, while
Hunter Morse made two saves to notch his third clean sheet of the season. WMU dominated in chances, outshooting the Mastodons 21-7 overall and 11-2 in shots on goal.
"Three different goal scorers is great to see," said head coach
Chad Wiseman. "We were pretty good going forward and created lots of chances in the run of play. We also had some nice minutes from our bench today and we now that will continue to be important as we move forward with the season.
Sing extended his goal scoring streak to four games after giving Western Michigan a 1-0 lead in the 16th minute.
Matt Lockwood served the ball into the box and Sing got his head on it, sending it into the right corner of the net for his fourth goal of the season. Lockwood picked up his second assist of the season on the eventual game-winner.
Fisher tallied his first career goal as a Bronco in the 40th minute to extend the lead to 2-0. Vianney Durrand had a low cross into the box that got deflected, but Fisher came streaking in from the midfield and fired it off the left post and into the net.
Sharp added the final goal in the 70th minute on a volley from the middle of the box. A cross had been sent in from the left flank and a PFW defender attempted to clear it out. The ball bounced up into the air and Sharp volleyed it into the back of the net.
"I thought we were really sharp with our ball movement in the second half," Wiseman added." We kept Fort Wayne locked in their end. A shutout on the road is never overlooked in our program. We now direct our attention to Sunday's match with St. Thomas, it will be nice to be back home playing in front our fans."
The Broncos welcome UST to the WMU Soccer Complex for the first time in program history on Sunday, with kick off set at 12 p.m. Admission is free.
