Men's Soccer Dominates in Win Over St. Thomas

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan men's soccer team picked up its fifth-straight win after a dominant performance in its 4-0 win over St. Thomas on Sunday afternoon at the WMU Soccer Complex.

The Broncos (5-1-0) held St. Thomas to just six total shots on the day, while firing off 17 of their own. Charlie Sharp had a goal and two assists on the day, while the Broncos also picked up goals from Daniel Nimick, Landon Fisher and Matt Lockwood. Senior Eric Conerty also contributed two assists and had three shots. Hunter Morse made three saves on the day to record his third straight shutout and fourth of the season.

Fisher got the Broncos on the board right away, scoring his second goal of the season in just the second minute. Tanner Hodgson served in an early corner kick and Sharp then slid the ball over to Fisher on the left side of the box and he kicked it into the right side of the net to push ahead 1-0.

WMU held its 1-0 lead into the second half, when Sharp made it 2-0. Carson Hodgson played him into the box and he fired it into the left-side of the net for his second goal of the season in the 65th minute.

Nimick scored in the 81st minute on a corner kick by Conerty to go ahead 3-0.

Lockwood solidified the win with his first career goal as a Bronco. The transfer right back picked up the ball from Sharp and dribbled to just outside the center of the box, before rifling one in with his left foot.

Western Michigan opens up Mid-American Conference play on Friday, hosting Northern Illinois at 5 p.m. Admission is free.
