Boone Bonnema Placed on Wuerffel Trophy Watch List

ATLANTA – Western Michigan redshirt sophomore linebacker Boone Bonnema has been named to the 2022 Wuerffel Trophy Watch List, it was announced on Thursday. The Wuerrfel Trophy is College Football's Premier Award for Community Service.
 
Bonnema appeared in 12 games for Western Michigan last season and recorded 12 tackles, nine of which were solo stops. The Zeeland, Mich., native registered a career-high four tackles, all of which were solo, in WMU's 64-31 rout of Kent State.  
 
Two Broncos have won the Wuerffel Trophy since it was established in 2005, with Tim Hiller winning the award in 2009 and Jon Wassink taking home the trophy in 2019.  
 
Bonnema joins Sean Tyler (Maxwell, Doak Walker), Jacob Gideon (Rimington), Dorian Jackson (Thorpe) and Nick Mihalic (Ray Guy) among Broncos who have earned places on NCFAA preseason award watch lists.
